The religious community had chosen to elude reality by assuming that drugs could not touch them if they did not acknowledge its crippling grip. Denial was the order of the day! The word from the leadership was to remain mute, side with those who were supplying, and then maybe your Sunday collection would constantly grow. That assumption was a fallacy as well. Nothing materialized other than, less attendance, divided households and other moral decay.
The political climate was also reflective of a deteriorating area. Political leaders were arrested because of the involvement in the drug trade. The political arena was unchanging because of the profits, and the releasing of a few dollars to those that supported them around election time. What could we do?
There were several problems that had to be addressed. We had to decide how to keep violent crime down. How do we keep food in the houses of those with children? How can we fight the one enemy that has strangled Ford Heights, Illinois for so long denial and ignorance?
What was done?
The answer to this problem was the formation of a Street Loan Ministry. This ministry involved the lending of money to the addicted individual. It was understood that an addict does not have any intention of repaying any debts but only supplying the demand of the addiction. With this in mind a bond was created with the sick individual. He was now made to feel that he or she was obligated to hear what he never intended on hearing. It was the fact that this behavior caused them to be in this position. The client had to attend a meeting of " I am Victorious"
M.N.A.M.-F.C.M's intention was to provide
a much needed resource and eliminate the traditional directive being " take
as much as you can and give nothing back".
